The State of Vehicle Electrification – 3rd Edition July 2022
The EMEA EV Indicator
As diesel and petrol vehicles continue to lose appeal across EMEA (diesel and petrol cars suffered a market share shrinkage of 5.3% and 4.8% respectively during Q1 '22) battery electric vehicles (BEV's) continue to surge with an increase of 53%, and now make up 10% of all sales.
This current surge in demand has major implications as it is placing BEV's beyond the critical tipping point for major adoption: suggested by Bloomberg to be 5% of new car registrations being BEV.
The significance for fleet is huge. Reaching this tipping point in so many countries means EV's will rapidly become mainstream and widely accepted as a legitimate alternative to petrol/diesel vehicles. This change in social acceptance means more demand from employees, and a real opportunity to use EV's as a differentiator when attracting new talent. It will however require an introduction strategy that ensures EV's are integrated sensibly and at a schedule that suits the fleet operators.
This is the 3rd edition of the EMEA EV Indicator , which maps a country's readiness for electrification, against the urgency with which they need to encourage its implementation. It is especially useful for planning company car fleet mix and where to place priority.
